hard water etching4/25/2023 Have you ever seen a white film on your glass, even after a window cleaning? That white film is usually the result of your windows being etched. Sprinkler water, pest control chemicals, and pressure washing are all responsible for etching. One of the final processes of creating your windows is the glazing. The glazing is what protects your glass and makes it nice and smooth. When minerals and chemicals sit on the glass, they begin to eat away the glaze on the glass. This is referred to as etching. When the glaze gets etched, the glass loses its smooth surface, and becomes vulnerable. Glass is porous, so once the glaze is gone, the etching can move further into the glass, causing permanent damage. It is important to remove whatever is causing the etching by cleaning your windows regularly, and if your windows have begun to etch the glazing, to treat and restore it. This is often referred to Hard Water Treatment, though sometimes it is chemicals that cause the etching. This process goes beyond window cleaning, and is the first stage of Glass Restoration.
No Streaking offers Glass Restoration on all Stage I etching. The products that we use not only remove the chemicals and minerals causing the etching, but it clears up the glass, and then protects the glass by replacing the etched glaze with a polymer that makes the glass smooth again, and the glass non-porous. It is vital to get to the root of the problem so that the etching doesn't come back. Have your sprinkler company adjust your sprinklers so they do not hit the windows, and ask your pest control company to be careful when spraying chemicals around the glass. When you get Pressure Washing done it is very important to clean the water off of your glass within a few days. Pressure Washing water, unlike the Pure Water from our Water-Fed Pole water, is hard water, sometimes mixed with chemicals like bleach. With the hot Florida sun, it only takes a few days for the heat to literally bake these minerals and chemicals into the glass. When you plan your Pressure Washing, make sure you plan to have your windows cleaned within a few days. While we are not able to save every window that has damage, the products we use are effective most of the time. Once the glass has Stage II etching, it requires other types of restoration, such as Acid Treatments or even Glass Pane Replacement. No Streaking Professional Window Washing offers free testing on your etched glass to see how effective our products will be. Just ask your technician to do a test patch and they will provide you with an estimate to restore your windows. Don't wait, as time is of the essence when it comes to Glass Restoration!
